Once upon a time ... in 1997, Jennifer Raines opened a little art gallery and gift shop in Williamsburg, Virginia called Kinks, Quirks & Caffeine. It was an instant hit among the community. With a focus on supporting local and international artists and crafts folk, the gallery was credited in helping Williamsburg obtain the honor of being named a "Top 25 Arts Destination" by American Style Magazine! Over the years, they have grown and evolved, but somethings have never changed. It’s a little business owned and operated by women who are passionate about art, design, whimsey and fun, and they are always excited for their next big project including their shop move in 2021 to a dream location in the city center of Richmond! With the help of their long time manager and bestie, Kendra, these girls have also taken their passion for funky fashion, off beat art and vintage style and turned it into Lipstick & Chrome! This fashionable branch of their business features their very own range of wearable art accessories.
Kendra discovered Johanna’s folk art through Bethany Lowe’s JPD Halloween line. Since they carry her unique seasonal collectibles in store, the idea occurred to collaborate on whimsical fashion accessories too. As working with other talented and independent women is part of their creative mission, reaching out to Johanna Parker made perfect sense! And of course, due to the mega vintage charm appeal of their playful brooches, it was an easy YES for Johanna to jump right in!
Together, they have been collaborating on a debut collection of Halloween brooches, featuring Johanna’s signature characters exemplified via Lipstick & Chrome’s distinctive artistry. Keep an eye out for “Christmaween” and classic Christmas brooches soon to follow along with exclusive scarves and other fashionable items that feature Johanna’s fabric prints! What a fab collab, and we all look forward to what’s to come….
