Founded in 2021 from their Mesa, Arizona garage, Jordan Zwicky and Clerisca Ribourg dove into the candle making business with a “make it or break it” mind-set. Originally, Jordan discovered her passion for candles in 2018 while working at a candle shop, and it was then that she knew right away that she wanted to do this forever! When she met Clerisca in early 2020, they were both unhappy with their current work, so the two decided it was time for a serious career change. Jordan quit her job, picked up Cler from Florida and brought her to Arizona where they quickly started on their candle business. With little funds, a phone, and a lot of hope, Jordan took her knowledge of candles and slowly began sharing her craft on TikTok with the help of Clerisca, who applied her film and editing skills, along with her knowledge of social media. The rest is history! What they thought were simple and niche, behind the scenes clips, quickly turned into a collective following of over 1 million on social media! They now work full time on Glow City Candles as a small team of two, and it's been beyond everything they could have ever dreamed!

As young 20-something entrepreneurs, Jordan and Clerisca stay relevant by drawing inspiration from their favorite genres, which keeps the candle wax and creative ideas flowing! Partial to pop culture and all things everyday spooky, they often focus on Halloween, which has always been their bread and butter. Along with popular sentiment, Halloween is a genre they so deeply love, and it offers an endless supply of spooky inspo that suits candle designs so well. With a great admiration for vintage Halloween in particular, Jordan has been a fan of Johanna’s designs for a long time. While seeing JP products in so many stores throughout the years, she has been inspired to create more vintage style lines of work. In her opinion, “Johanna has made such a massive impact in the vintage Halloween art world, it's hard to create something without calling to her designs in one way or another.” It was when Jordan witnessed a video of a JP fan’s collection go viral on social media that she was instantly inspired to create something similar. But, while they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, everyone deserves their rightful credit. So, Jordan was thrilled to see another JPD craft artist collaborating with Johanna. She quickly discovered the partner program and just HAD to be a part of it! As such, Jordan reached out to Johanna, and a glowing match was made!

For years, Johanna had Halloween visions of her iconic characters, coming to life in an everlasting candle form that would not just melt away, but she had not imagined that an artisan candle carver would reach out to truly make that magic happen! Jordan’s presentation shed light and brought thrilling possibilities to the table, and naturally, Johanna was intrigued! After an exchange of ideas, Jordan and Cler got to work and dazzled Johanna and JP with a stunning set of Halloween candle samples that capture the spirit of JP characters and silhouette designs with a masterful Glow City Candles twist!

Creating these collaborative candles has been a joy, and as Jordan notes, it’s not only amazing to see these creations come to life, but it has also been a way to expand her skill set and explore avenues in wax that she never thought were possible! While carving and cutting wax is second nature, sculpting the wax is a new, self-taught method that has added dimension to Jordan’s work. As such, each collaborative candle is truly unique, and her new found technique adds exciting potential to this new chapter in their glowing business. The Glow City Candles duo along with JPD are simply floored by the results of these handmade candle creations, and all are honored to be working in collaboration together to create such beloved, everlasting characters in wax!

ABOUT THE PROCESS:

Jordan Zwicky is the lead artist and Clerisca Ribourg creates the solid paraffin base cores that Jordan carves into. Clerisca also films and edits the footage to share their process with the world, and Jordan considers Clerisca the backbone of everything that she does.

All candles are made in 10-15 minutes or less before the warm wax cools down with the exception of sculpted candles which can take upwards of 2 hours to complete. Jordan repeatedly reheats the wax in order to manipulate it for longer times. She has developed her own method for creating soft clay-like wax in order to create her 3 dimensional sculpted candles, which begin from cores made from two part plastic molds. All cores are made in house, and everything is run and made by this creative team of 2. Visit Glow City Candles’ social media accounts for a fascinating look at their process…
